Going Home!

Tomorrow I am being discharged from rehab and will go home for the first time in 2 weeks.

When Ryan and I rode off on his motorcycle for our date, I never imagined that I wouldn't return home that night.  I kissed and hugged both boys, told them I love them, and waved as they watched us ride down the street.  We had a fun dinner, followed by a ride around Grapevine, even across the Grapevine Lake Dam.  We ended up in downtown Grapevine, and bought a bottle of wine.

We were so close to home.  In just one second, our lives were flipped upside down.  We were rushed to an ER in Plano, while calls were made to our parents.  Despite the pain, I was still worried about Riley and Eli, wondering how they would feel when they woke up.  They had never had a night away from Mommy and Daddy (well, Riley had one time, but he was too little to remember).  I was concerned mostly about Eli, since I was still breastfeeding him, and he is such a clingy mama's boy.  I knew they were in good hands with my inlaws, but I still worried.

I was (and am) very thankful that night did not end worse.  It easily could have.  8 days in the hospital, and another 5 days in rehab, has given me a lot of time to think.  I try not to think about what could have happened, and instead, focus on the good.

This has been a wake up call.  It is so easy to get in a routine in our daily lives.  It's easy to take for granted what we do have, and always seem to want more.  This has been a reminder that I have an amazing husband, 2 wonderful children, a great family, and the best of friends.  God has given me life, and He has blessed me with so many wonderful people to surround me.  And I am thankful.

I want to leave you with these words, a song in fact.  "Blessed be Your Name" by Matt Redman.  Please lift this up as a prayer as you read.

"Blessed be Your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

And blessed be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
And when the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say, Lord
Blessed be Your name

You give and take away
You gve and take away
My heart will choose to say, Lord
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
From the risin' of the sun over us
To the settin' of the same
Though there's pain in the offering

Oh, blessed be Your name
Blessed be
Blessed be
Blessed be Your name"

  5. I happened across your blog a few days ago.... I am excited for you that you get to go home. Praise God that you are being reunited with your family after what must have been a horrible accident. I love the song you posted - I can hear it in my head now...a good thing as I make myself walk away from the computer and go to bed.

  6. Ashley, that's too funny! If I'm feeling up to it, I may try to come by Tuesday morning after my dr appt to pick up my order and just say Hi.

zookeeper...Glad you found me! A couple years ago I followed a story about a young boy who almost lost his life to MRSA. His family was so strong through the whole ordeal, and one of her emails included the lyrics to that song. It has so much to me ever since, and I can't listen to it without tearing up. She found a way to still praise God, even though they were told her son would not live. But he did, and is now very healthy! She lived my worst nightmare and was still able to say "Blessed be the name of the Lord". So after my accident, I have tried my best to live this song, and to be thankful for everything I do have, and also that things were not worse than they are. In all things, I need to remember to praise God's Holy name.

I also believe that something good will come out of this experience. I may never know what it is, but I believe that God will take every bad situation and turn it into something beautiful.

  7. SO glad you get to come home!!! :) The digital signs on 75 and 635 all read "Share the road. Watch for motorcycles" last night and I thought of you and said a prayer thanking God for watching over you and Ryan. I never got a chance to come visit you at the hospital, but if there's anything I can do now that you're home, please let me know!
